About Rebekah

I’m a librarian, advocate, and former Utah Lt. Governor candidate, speaking at the intersection of artificial intelligence, leadership, boundaries, and bravery.

What I do: I hold dual roles at the University of Utah J. Willard Marriott Library as Director of Digital Matters and Head of Open Scholarship and Data Services. In 2025, I served as Co-Director of the Summer Institute for Higher Education Faculty, Humanities Perspectives on Artificial Intelligence, supporting faculty as they explored the ethical, cultural, and human implications of AI.

My research has been published in leading journals including Digital Humanities Quarterly, Information Technology and Libraries, International Journal on Digital Libraries, and Journal of Library Administration. In 2024, I co-authored The High-Impact Digital Library: Innovative Approaches for Outreach and Instruction, published by the American Library Association.

Beyond academia, I have championed library funding and public education for more than a decade. I’ve served as President of the Utah Library Association, Chair of the Utah State Library Board, and Co-Founder of Let Utah Read, a statewide advocacy initiative. My work has been recognized by organizations including the American Library Association, the League of Women Voters, the ACLU of Utah, and the Utah Academy of Science, Arts, and Letters.

In 2024, I became the first librarian in U.S. history to run for Lieutenant Governor on a major party ticket.

Why I do it: I love people and their stories. I am wildly passionate about creating spaces where people can thrive, building coalitions, and figuring out what it means to be human in an age of AI.

I live in Salt Lake City, UT with my husband Robert, our three amazing kids Aidan, Harper, and Ashton, and our Australian Shepherd named Stan.
